update 20 August 2010: last PETs until new parts come
For many years there has been a PET cart production site in Zambia. This Affiliate is a part of the New Life Center in Kitwe. In August they will be suspending production at the shop because of the lack of parts. Over recent months they have produced and distributed hundreds of PET carts in this part of Africa.
The goal for PET Zambia is to build 500 PET carts at a rate of roughly 45 per month as soon as the needed parts arrive. An appeal has gone out to all of the PET Affiliates across the United States to stretch their budgets to include helping in some way with this re-supply effort. Thus far there have been about a third of the needed parts donated. Some of the parts such as tires and bearings will have to be purchased. There is still about $37,000 worth of parts to be gathered.
If you have the capacity to give toward this worthy effort to re-supply the PET Zambia Affiliate, won’t you please consider doing so? Every donation will make a difference in providing the Gift of Mobility in this country. Please donate and designate your gift for Zambia re-supply.
